Untitled Portrait
by: TJ Anunderice
Silver gelatin print
This is a beautiful image of a girl in a white dress outside. There is a nice off center placement of the subject and nice variations of dark and light. There is a beautiful area of light that seems to give the whole image a nice glow.
I believe that this image is trying to portray the parallel beauty of both the woman and nature itself. The glow around the woman emphasizes her beauty but the fact that it is from the water emphasizes the beauty of her surroundings. It could also mean that by having a person in that location to appreciate the beauty of it makes it more beautiful.
I believe this photographer did a wonderful job of balancing the very harsh light that could have become blown out and could have overtaken the image. The viewer is still able to see the details of the white dress against the bright white light. The composition is beautiful and well balanced with nice off center placement of the girl and the tree. The cropping was enough to focus on the subject but give enough of the background for the viewer to understand what was goin on around the subject.
This is one of my favorite photographs ever. While the light made the image really get my attention, the attention to detail made me linger. It takes a lot of skill to control aspects of nature into doing what you want and this photographer did a great job. This photograph really "speaks" to me. I feel like it is actually trying to tell me a story; not a concrete story but it is definitey not just something to look at. There is movement and emotion bursting out of this image.

for the next project in digital photography class i will be emulating Lori Nix. i chose this photographer because i felt like using miniatures and creating scenes was very unexpected. i would never have thought this could be pulled off successfully unless you used really expensive miniatures but Nix has created a formula that works! she is famous for her scenes of miniatures in scenes of tragedy or decay. im curious to see if i will be able to do this.

i think at this moment i am kind of obsessed with trying to make a huge fantasy world in the woods? im not sure but i think thats where im headed :/
